Nancy Claire Wones Eldridge, 84, of Bay City passed away March 25, 2024.  She was born October 24, 1939 in Saratoga, TX to the late John L. Wones and Wilma Chandler Wones.

She was a 1958 graduate of French High School in Beaumont, TX and graduated from Lamar University in 1962 with a degree in Physical Education.  She married Stanley Jude Eldridge February 3, 1962.  They lived in five states during his military service, finally settling in Bay City in 1977 where Stanley to work at South Texas Project.  She began working with Child's Protective Service in 1980 retiring as Wharton/Matagorda County Supervisor.  Her second retirement came after working for two years at the First Baptist Church Child Development Center.  She and Stan have enjoyed traveling and camping in many interesting locations.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother John L. Wones and sister Wilma Wones Brotzman.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Stanley Jude Eldridge; son Stanley John Eldridge; daughters Martha Ellen Eldridge Connelly (Michael) and Amy Claire Eldridge Igo (Robert); nephew Curt Brotzman (Ruth); niece Tammerie Day; grandchildren Anna Donnelly, Michaela Donnelly, Macain Eldridge, Claire Igo and Christian Igo; niece Marina Garcia; sister-in-law Anna Jane Brian (John) and brother-in-law Michael McCain (Daneille).

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 am Friday, April 5, 2024 at First Baptist Church Bay City with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.
