Lucy Chavez Garcia , 87, of Palacios, TX passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at MNRC. Lucy was born on January 21, 1936 in Matagorda, TX to the late Placido and Higina Chavez.

Lucy was raised in the New Gulf area with 13 siblings. She married the love of her life, Arturo Garcia and raised 1 child together in Palacios, TX. She loved girls' day where we did things like going to the movies, going out to eat, and especially shopping at Walmart and Palais Royal. She loved getting her nails done, whether they were done at a salon or done by her daughter. She especially loved spending time with her family, and all of our family parties.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings Isabel Salazar, Jacinto Chavez, Leocarda Peña, Alfonso Chavez, Placido Chavez Jr., Elida Chavez, Richard Chavez, Maria Garcia, Rudy Chavez, and grandson Joshua Hebel.

Lucy is survived by her daughter, Melissa Montalvo and husband Leo of Palacios; grandchildren, Jacob and Seth Quintanilla of Palacios, Gabriel Montalvo of Palacios, Mariah Montalvo of Wharton; great grandchild Rylan Quintanilla of El Campo; brothers Roy Chavez and wife Janie and Ralph Chavez of Wharton; sisters Beatrice Gomez and husband Sammy of Boling, Ester Chavez of Boling and many beautiful nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held beginning at 9:00 am Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Palacios Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 11am. The Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 pm at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery.
