Johnny Peña passed away February 2, 2023 surrounded by dear family and friends. He was born August 2, 1949 in Bay City, Texas to the late Teodulo Peña and Petra Palacios Peña.
He graduated from Bay City High School in 1968 where he ran track. He also served as an altar boy at his church. He served in the US Army 1971-1972 and was awarded the following: Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Air Medal and Army Commendation Medal.
After the Vietnam War, he married his soulmate, Lucy Arrambide September 2, 1972. He worked for Nalco Chemical, Hoffman Laroche and retired from Oxychem. He then pursued his Real Estate License and sold real estate until 2018.
After spending 18 months at the VA Hospital, he became known as "The Quiet Soldier".
Survivors include his wife Lucy Arrambide Peña; daughters Tracy Peña Garcia and her husband Abe Garcia of Dallas and Caren Peña Recinos of Houston; grandchildren Nicholas Garcia, Gavin Garcia and Anabella Recinos; brothers Daniel Peña, Steve Peña and Tony Peña; and sisters Cynthia Morales, Rosa Mena, Lucy Canales and Mary Helen Nanez.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Nichols Street Church of Christ; 1200 Nichols St.; Bay City, TX 77414. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Garcia, Gavin Garcia, Bryan Castellanos, Steve Peña, Jr., Daniel Peña Jr. and David Peña.
