Eunice Ernestine Bates, 85, of Palacios passed away January 20, 2023.  She was born October 14, 1937 in Irvington, Alabama to the late Ernest Wilson and Lorisa Mae Rester Wilson.

Her passions in life included:

-Spending many hours on the water with her husband, sons and grandson- shrimping and fishing the Matagorda Bay.

-Hours spent in the kitchen preparing delicious meals and scrumptious desserts.

-Reading the Word of God and learning about her "Precious Lord and Savior".

-Sewing the traditional Christmas stockings for each of her loved ones.

-Cross-stitching beautiful pieces, including the well-remembered light houses.

-Annual deer hunting trips back in the Alabama woods & here at Fredrick's.

-Lastly, writing beautiful words of love and encouragement in cherished birthday cards to her ever growing family.

In addition to her parents and multiple siblings, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Hudson Levert Bates, Sr (married 56 ½ wonderful years) and her son Hudson Levert "Bud" Bates, Jr.

Survivors include daughters Cheryl Todd, Rhonda Glenn and Velenda (Terry) Brune; son Brian (Marie) Bates, Sr. ; daughter-in-law Linda Curtis; sisters Ruth, June, Elizabeth, Yvonne and Peggy and brother Wayne; 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren with one on the way and 2 great-great grandchildren (giving a grand total of 62 grandchildren).

Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM with Pastor Larry Swift officiating.  Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Allen Morrison, Jr., Russell Morrison, John Rollie Glenn, Hudson Bates, Wayne Brune and Brian Bates, Jr.
