Charles "Chubby or CO" Murphree, 90, of Allen, Texas passed away February 11, 2025. He was born March 27, 1934 in Humble, Texas to the late Hugh O. Murphree and Erma Pace Murphree.
He was a devoted husband, father, and pillar of the Bay City community. Charles moved to the Van Vleck area in the early 1950s and later settled in Bay City, where he built a life, a family, and a legacy.
As a skilled craftsman and entrepreneur, Charles founded his own business, constructing custom homes for numerous families in Bay City and surrounding areas. His passion for building and creating was matched only by his love for fishing, particularly in the waters of Matagorda Bay, where he spent countless hours reeling in tales and trophies.
Charles was also an avid enthusiast of remote control airplanes, meticulously crafting and flying intricate models well into his 90s. His adventures in the skies earned him the nickname "Hang 'Em High Murphree," a testament to his daring spirit and unwavering dedication to his hobby.
Charles will be deeply missed by his vast network of friends, family, and loved ones in Bay City, Austin, and Dallas/Allen, Texas areas. His legacy as a devoted husband, father, and community leader will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him.
Rest in peace, Charles. Your stories, wisdom, and love will never be forgotten.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Murphree and a brother, Mace Murphree.
Survivors include daughter, Janet Evans and her husband John; son, Mike Murphree and his wife Christy; brother, Barney Murphree and his wife Gayle and grandchildren, Holly Murphree and Collin Murphree.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM with Matt Springfield officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be John Evans, Collin Murphree, Mike Murphree, Randy Murphree, Hugh Murphree and Dewey Murphree.
