Wynelle Lawrence Johnson of Bay City, Texas passed away on May 19, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land at the age of 85 due to organ failure in the presence of her four sons. She was born on September 15, 1924 in Monticello, Texas to Floyd and Birdie Lawrence. She grew up in Mt. Vernon and graduated from Mr. Venon High School. In 1943 she moved to Bay City to live with her sister and her husband, Myra and Bill Henry. Where she met Alvin Smith Johnson, fell in love, and later married at the Bay City Baptist Church in 1946. They had four sons; Carl, Robert, Phillip, and Alvin "Smitty". Alvin "Jiggs" Johnson preceded her in death in 1956. Wynelle enjoyed 45 year of service as a secretary working for CP & L. For 10 years she worked part time at STP in the Visitor Center to answer questions. She volunteered countless hours serving her Christian community of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Bay Villa Nursing Home also enjoyed the many hours Wynelle spent cutting hair, baking, and keeping the residents company. She truly enjoyed time spent as a member of the Red Hat Angels.
Wynelle Lawrence Johnson is survived by one of her 8 siblings, Lucy De Viney of Mt. Pleasant. She leaves behind a loving family: Vicki and Carl, Rosanne and Robert, Glenda and Philip and Denise and Alvin "Smitty" Johnson. Grand children: Kevin, Andrea, Bryan, Eric, Michael, Lisa, and Lacy Johnson and 14 great grand children.
Wynelle Lawrence Johnson visitation will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home from 6-8pm. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at St. Paul's United Methodist at 3:00 pm with graveside service proceeding at Cedarvale Cemetery. Reverend Barbara Edwards, niece of Wynelle, will co-minister the services with Pastor Tom Morgan. Pallbearers will be Kevin Jonson, Chris Tamborello, Blake Tamborello, Bryan Johnson, Eric Johnson, and Michael Johnson.
