Winifred Lenderman, 105, died peacefully with family on February 5, 2026, at 11:39 p.m.
Quiet, dignified, and no frills, Winifred’s life was an example of her faith.
She was born in Sweeny, Texas, to William Perry Brose and Laura Mae Weaver Brose, where she grew up with her siblings Willard, Eleanor, and Elsie.
After marrying young, Winifred worked for many years at Bay City Bank and Trust, later renamed First National Bank. She began as a switchboard operator and remained at the bank until her retirement at the age of 75. Her work was not something she spoke of in grand terms; it was simply what needed doing, and she did it, day after day, for her family.
Winifred played high-school basketball and was a lifelong sports fan. She avidly supported all Texas sports programs, but the Houston Astros held a special place in her heart. Despite the vicissitudes that go along with being an Astros backer, her fandom never wavered.
Winifred had two children, Shirley Ann Lenderman Shoultz and Gary Lee Lenderman, and a child who died at birth. She was mother-in-law to Dr. Charles A. Shoultz and Elizabeth (Betty) Anne Lenderman, both of whom preceded her in death. Charles and Betty were like children to her and their losses affected her profoundly.
She was grandmother to Judith (Judy) Anne Lenderman, p. Jerry Ulke; David Lee Lenderman, m. Sue H. Watson, PharmD; Jason Scott Lenderman; Joel (Joey) Michael Lenderman, m. Amanda Lenderman; Daniel Christian (Danny) Lenderman, m. Danette Lenderman; Shirley Suzanne (Suzy) Shoultz, m. Lewis Pollok; Martha J. Shoultz, JD, m. Nelson Arroyo; Charles Albert Shoultz, MD, m. Fransara Falsone Shoultz; Amy Elizabeth Shoultz, PhD; Laura Kathleen (Katy) Shoultz, m. Brett Moore; and Michael Scott (Scotty) Shoultz, m. Karla Cruz Shoultz.
She was great-grandmother to Justin Jones, m. Chris Rodriguez and Garrett Lee Lenderman, m. Lauren Lenderman; Ming, Reed, and Maya Lenderman; Jeremiah Lenderman; Kristian Lenderman PhD, m. Lindsay Ellis, Sarah Lenderman, p. Jonathan Strickland, and Clay Lenderman, m. Michaela Lenderman; Jaxson and Max Lenderman; Charles (Chip), Sara Shoultz Henley, MD m. Carson Henley DDS, Rebecca, and Emma Shoultz; Spike and Mimi Pollok; Laura and Max Arroyo; Alexandra, Astrid, and Mila Shoultz. She was also the great-great-grandmother of ten: Virginia, Winnie, Jack, Tanner, Tatum, Julian, Cash, Lila, Asa, and Merritt.
From the time that Winifred turned 95 to her 105th birthday, the family hosted a party in Matagorda, Texas to celebrate her life. She loved these annual gatherings, as much because she was the guest of honor as that the event brought together her entire family in one space. She remembered all their many birthdays, as well, and unfailingly sent each of them cards. Her grandchildren remember her signature sign-off: “Stay Alert.” And she did, until the very end.
A visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m., also at Calvary Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas.
Pallbearers are her grandsons David Lenderman, Jason Lenderman, Daniel Lenderman, Joel Lenderman, Charles Shoultz, and Scott Shoultz.
