Our mother, Wilma Inez Presley, 93, of Sweeny, Texas was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. She was born November 7, 1919 in Sardis, Tennessee to William Bartley Sheffield and Lura Finley Sheffield.

Mother was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Sweeny where each November for many years she could be found serving pie and cake at the annual Chicken Spaghetti Dinner. On weekdays in Watt's Hall she spent countless happy hours around a quilting frame with wonderful friends. Without fail, Sundays would find her, Sunday-School-Book-in-hand, on her way to study God's Word with the Lydia Sunday School Class.

Mother grew up on the banks of the Tennessee River near Saltillo, Tennessee. Some of her favorite childhood memories were the years she played forward for the Saltillo High School Basketball Team and her graduation as the Salutatorian of her senior class. On December 24, 1942 she married William Floyd Presley. They moved to Sweeny from Tennessee in 1944. For a while she worked as the school secretary for Mrs. Vades Richardson at the Berta Barclay Elementary School. Mother and Daddy built a neighborhood grocery store that Mother managed, as she sat at a sewing machine behind the counter and made all of our clothes. Eventually, the store became a washateria of which Mother took meticulous care. Traveling across our country was a joy in Mother's life. On many of these travels, she was so inspired by God's handiwork that she wrote several poems to describe its beauty.

Survivors include two daughters: Sharon (Jimmy Norton) and Vicki (Jimmy Russell) of Sweeny; four grandchildren: Tracy Colvin, Robin Stroud, Lori Russell, and Lisa Karas; and eight great-grandchildren: Megan, Zachary, and Peyton Colvin; Cooper and Brooklyn Stroud; Brian and Brynn Darden; and Kaden Karas. She is also survived by one brother, Dan Sheffield (Mona) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mother was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Floyd Presley; a daughter, Sandra Kay Presley; father, Bart Sheffield; and mother, Lura Sheffield; two brothers and their wives, Earl Sheffield (Jean) and Neal Sheffield (Sue); two sisters, Audrey Simmons and Ruby Sheffield.

Services will be held Monday, February 4, at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Sweeny, Texas with John Price officiating. The family will receive friends in the church auditorium one hour before the service. Interment will follow immediately at Sweeny Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Sheffield, Don Sheffield, Joey Sheffield, Doug Colvin, Greg Stroud, and Adam Karas.

Mother will be remembered as a loyal, devoted mother and grandmother, determined, strong in purpose, encouraging, hard-working, and FEISTY.
