Willie Mae Simpson,86, of Palacios passed away on Sunday May 17, 2015. She was born in Matagorda County on October 10, 1927 to W. H. "Bill" and Alvena Kopecky Laslie. Willie Mae spent most of her 86 years in Matagorda County.

Willie Mae was a wonderful seamstress and had a large garden. She crocheted over 1200 hats for needy children and cancer patients. She was known as a caretaker, always caring for people.

Willie Mae is preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, W. T. "Buster" Gunter; husband of 20 years Robert "Bob" Simpson; brothers Ronnie B. Laslie and Charles Laslie ; sister, Mary Ann Griffith. Survivors include her daughters Shirley Gunter Kelly and spouse S. J. Lozano; Joyce Gunter Bannerot and spouse Jim Bannerot.; sisters Lucille Dendy and Vivian Evans; brother Raymond Laslie; grandsons Travis Rodgers and Gunter Kelly; great-grandchildren Abby, Cam and Raquel.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00pm Wed. May 20, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral services are 2:00p.m. Thurs. May 21, 2015 at Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. David King officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Houston Hospice El Campo, 1102 N. Mechanic, El Campo, Texas 77437. Serving as pallbearers are Pete Griffith, Louis Griffith, Willie Griffith, Buddy Laslie, Johnny Laslie and C. A. Laslie. Honorary pallbearer are Richard Evans.
