Obituary

William Charles Ham, 79, passed away October 17, 2023.  He was born October 23, 1943 in Refugio, Texas to the late Howard Ceil Ham, Sr. and Thelma "Curley" Coward Ham.

He graduated from Bay City High School in 1961 and was voted Senior Class Favorite Boy.  He was very active in FFA and 4H as well as athletics, particularly Black Cat Football.  He attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham on a football scholarship.  He transferred to Southwest Texas State University in 1962 where he played on the Bobcat Football Team through 1964 and continued to be a loyal supporter and member of the Bobcat Club.

He began his coaching career at Brazosport ISD.  His career included positions at Lake Jackson Intermediate School and Line Coach at Phyllis Wheatley High School in Houston.

He later changed his career, becoming a Safety Inspection Engineer.  He traveled to many locations including Saudi Arabia, Williston, ND and Prudhoe Bay, Alaska where he was involved in clean-up operations of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in 1989.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Ret. Col. Howard C. Ham, Jr. and Margaret Ham as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

His body was willed to medical science at the time of his death.  A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, October 21, 2024 at Cedarvale Cemetery, where his Cremated Remains will be interred.
