William "Bill" Flanagan, 77, of Van Vleck, was called to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 27, 2009. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was born in Huntsville, TX to Arthur Flanagan and Lois Belle Wooderson Flanagan. He was a graduate of Huntsville High School and was a nominee for the All Century Huntsville High School Football Team for the "Huntsville Item". He proudly served his country in the US Navy, graduated from Sam Houston State University, and worked tirelessly as an educator and rancher.
His life interest were many and include loving and caring for family and friends, his ranches in Hopewell and Bay City, his Harmon Creek deer lease, hunting, fishing, constructing and navigating house boats, his many pets and livestock, and visiting the State of Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Eugene; sisters Oneta, Ann, and Marjie; and brothers-in-law: Vernon Darby and Joe Sparks. He is survived by his wife: Shirley; sons: Mark and his wife Tracy, Mike and his wife Beatrice, and Monte; grandsons: Jeremy and Michael; mother-in-law: Orene Jordan; brothers-in-law: Don Jordan and his wife Barbara, and Wilbur Enke; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel.
