WILEY JAMES SONNIER (JIM) passed away November 30, 2013, at the age of 76 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in New Orleans, LA August 29, 1937. He graduated from Bay City High School in 1955 and graduated from Texas A&M in 1959 with a BBA. He was very active in the Corp of Cadets while at A&M and was a member of the Ross Volunteer honor guard unit. Upon leaving Texas A&M he entered the US Army as a commissioned officer and later completed his military service in the US Army Reserve at the rank of Captain. Upon entering civilian life he was employed by Mosher Steel Co. for 20 years as personnel director of the Houston facility. He retired from Schlumberger as Region Personnel Manager Southern/Offshore Region.
He was preceded in death by his parents J.E. and Noelie Sonnier, sister Lois Jurek, wives Daphne Sonnier and Georgia Ann Sweeny Sonnier. Survived by his daughter Eva Marie and husband Dr. Lance Goetz, sons Michael and David and wife Betsy, and the mother of his children Ede Sonnier, step-son Matthew Cole, D.D.S. and wife Beth, six grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim enjoyed travelling to the U.K. and Alaska and living in Port Alto and spending time with all his Port Alto friends. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying bay and offshore fishing and loved spending time at his ranch in south Texas.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, December 7 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City, Texas at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers: Mitch Abshier, Tim Jurek, Jimmy Jurek, Brent Nance, Phil Richman, Nolan Stoute and Brent Maykuth.
