Obituary

George Wayne Michael , 95, of Bay City, Texas, left his earthly home on March 13, 2019 to enter into his Heavenly home. He was born in Ft Wayne, Indiana, on June 21, 1923 to the late Samuel and Mary Edel Belle Michael, also later raised by his stepfather the late Limone Loraine Wilson, when his birth father passed.

"Wayne", as he was called by friends, moved to Texas at a young age. He went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in Saipan. He was discharged in 1946, and 1 month later met Mary Jane Cook of Flatonia, Texas who he affectionately referred to as "Kiddo". They were married at First Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas on November 3, 1946. He whole heartedly committed himself to caring for her all those years just up until days before his passing.

He did carpentry work for several years then went on to become an Area Maintenance Supervisor at Phillips 66 in Old Ocean, Texas for 35 years. Upon retirement he and "Kiddo" hit the road and enjoyed life. Some of their favorite spots were found in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Tennessee, Florida, New Orleans and San Antonio just to name a few.

Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1947 where he served as Chairman of Deacons for a few years, and Greeter for approximately 50 years. If he met you once, then he knew your name for a lifetime. He also assisted in the building of the Pearl Morton Hall at FBC.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 72 years, Janie of Bay City; Granddaughter Julie Pena and husband Mario of Austin; Great-granddaughter Carmen Pachicano of Austin; several nieces; and two very special friends he adopted as his own Tina Coombs-Hernandez of Bay City; Rachel Ashworth of Van Vleck and many friends that he loved. He is preceded in death by his parents; son Mark Wayne and wife Donna Michael, and brothers Samuel and James Michael.

The family will receive visitors 5:00-7:00pm Sunday, March 17 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Services are 1:00pm Monday, March 18, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.
