Wannie Lee Humphries passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, February 19, 2011. Wannie was born on March 22, 1931, in Ben Hur, Texas and her family moved to Bay City when she was 14. She shared her love of education and music to hundreds of children in Matagorda County as the owner of Humpty Dumpty Pre-School for 34 years. Wannie was one of four generations of Matagorda County educators in her family. She enjoyed fullness of life as she spent time with her family and friends. Wannie's favorite activities included her Bridge Club, Book Review, and reunions with her high school girl friends.
Wannie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, James Wallace Humphries, Sr., a son-in-law Gordon Cook and her parents Kenneth and Ora Mae Kerley. Surivivors include three daughters Judy Rowland and husband Tommy of Ganado, AZ, Sheri Fry and husband Barry of Bay City, TX, & Lesa Tidwell and husband David of Belton, TX; son Jim Humphries and wife Elsa of Bay City, TX; grandchildren Amy Rowland, Karie Thering, Ginny Rowland, Will Cook, Jessica Cook-Rodriguez, Chad Tidwell, Tyson Tidwell, Kyle Tidwell & Christina Humphries and 10 great grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City with Rev. Jeff Gantz and Rev. Harley Savage officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Caleb Cook, Will Cook, Kyle Tidwell, Tyson Tidwell, Chad Tidwell, Daniel Thering and Mark Rodriguez.
