Walter Gerhard Oncken, born May 22 1943, entered his heavenly home on February 9, 2017.
Walter graduated from Weimar High School in 1961. He received his Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Education from Sam Houston State University. His first teaching job was at Austwell-Tivoli for 2 years. Walter moved to Van Vleck, TX and taught for 37 years before retiring.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Johanna Oncken; sister Elvera Pipper; brother-in-law Bennie Pipper and niece Wanda Pendergrass. He is survived by his wife Bobbie; sons Edgar (Karen) and Todd (Tiffany); step-son Brad McGonagle (Amanda) and 5 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm Monday, February 13 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00am Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Van Vleck. Interment will be at 3:00pm Tuesday at Weimar Masonic Cemetery in Weimar, TX. Pallbearers are Donnie O'Connell, Pat O'Connell, Wayne Massey, Wayne Bender, Eugene Baumann and Phillip Baumann. Honorary pallbearers are Clay Oncken, Jacob Oncken, Bud Stewart, Ronnie Cathy, Dan Pustka, Dan O'Connell, David O'Connell and Justin Atkinson.
