Violet F. Smith, 82, of Matagorda passed away November 14, 2012. She was born November 30, 1929 in Bay City, TX to the late Ingomar Cameron Baxter and Ida Mae Yeamans Baxter. She was a life member of Christ Episcopal Church, member of the Altar Guild, Vestry and ECW. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4459. She loved to fish, crochet, cook, flower garden and do most anything outdoors. "She was our hero, our best friend."
Her husband Alvin "Smitty" Smith preceded her in death along with sister Claire Mae Baxter and brothers Claude Ingomar Baxter & Bobby Clancy Baxter. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands Nancy & Charles Vasek, Shirley & Joseph Bokorney and Betty & Jeff Davis; sister-in-law Oline Underwood; grandchildren Brad Vasek, Megan Cerceo (Joey), Andrew Vasek, Bo Bokorney & Tell Bokorney; 3 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews including Julie Cox, Bobby Baxter & Clancy Baxter.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm to 7pm Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda with Rev. Hoss Gwin officiating. Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Bokorney, Jeff Davis, Brad Vasek, Andrew Vasek, Bobby Baxter &, Tell Bokorney. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Vasek, Clancy Baxter, Bo Bokorney & Mike Smith.
The family would like to thank the staff of Houston Hospice for the attentive care they provided and her niece and "certified angel" Martha Smith. Memorials may be made in her honor the Memory Book at Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda.
