Obituary

Vernie Lee Taylor Younts, 75, of Bay City, Texas passed away on Sept. 18, 2010 in Bay City, Texas after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Vern was born on November 13, 1934, in Lee County, Texas, in the community of Pleasant Groves, to Loy R.Q. Taylor and Ivy Lee Rhodes. Her family moved to Bay City when she was about one year of age. She graduated from Bay City High School in May of 1953. She married Harold Lee Hamilton in May of 1955 at Baptist Temple Church. They lived in California for awhile, where Harold was stationed in the Navy, before returning to Bay City. After her four children were older, she attended Wharton County Junior College and became an LVN in 1972. She enjoyed being a nurse and helping the elderly. She married A.W. Younts on October 10, 1985. They traveled extensively, doing their best to fulfill a goal to live in every state, even if just for a month. From Alaska and the Arctic Circle to Baja California, and from Canada's polar bear migration and Bay of Fundy to the Florida Keys, they panned for gold, searched for garnets, went dogsledding and snowmobiling. Vern even went motorcycle riding with several of her nephews to celebrate her 75th birthday. She had many hobbies, including working in her yard, crocheting, knitting, sewing, quilting, and making porcelain dolls. She was very interested in genealogy, which of course required several research trips to Salt Lake City. She was a member of the Genealogy Society, the Quilting Guild, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Vern is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Margaret Johnson and Elsie Black, and two brothers: Dayton Taylor and R.C. Taylor.
