Verna Turek, 90, of Palacios passed away December 28, 2013. She was born April 17, 1923 in Burleson County, TX to the late Ludwig Junek and Clara Popek Junek. She was one of eight children. Her family settled in the Blessing area when she was a child. She was a "Riveting Rita" during WWII placing wing flaps on trainer planes. She met William A. Turek while he was stationed at Camp Hulen in Palacios and they married December 16, 1945. They built and operated a small store in El Campo in 1949. After saving money for 4 years they purchased a farm near Palacios where they remained for many years. She was a hard working lady all of her life.

Her husband preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters Nancy Fay Reimherr & husband Michael of San Antonio and Carol Ann Hoskins & husband Lee Roy, Jr. of George West, TX; sisters Emma Jean Piwonka of Blessing and Clara Gordon of Burnett, TX; grandchildren and their spouses Michelle & Brad Miller, David Reimherr & Liz Parker, Theresa & Cody Maxey, Anthony & Misa Reimherr, LeeAnn & Doug Kulka, Lee Roy "Tito" & Liz Hoskins, and Andrea Clare & Adam Junica and great grandchildren Mitchell, Anna, Lee, Davis, Piper, Pierce, Paige, Walker, Kai, Mitch and Quinnlyn.

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be 10:00 AM Friday, January 3, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Blessing. Pallbearers will be Daivid & Anthony Reimherr, Tito Hoskins, Doug Kulka, Adam Jurica, Cody Maxey, Brad Miller and Mitchell Kulka. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Palacios.
