Obituary
Thelma Lee Sowell Rackley, 91, of Palacios, Texas was born February 12, 1922 to the late Vera and Richard Sowell in rural southwest Arkansas. Thelma went to be with her beloved Lord on January 24, 2014. Thelma married Henry Lentz Rackley on December 23, 1939 in New Boston, Texas. Her beloved husband, Lentz, died in service to his country during WWII.
Thelma loved her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She seldom missed a ball game or a ranch rodeo that they were participating in. She was a strong and independent lady. She was active in her church, seldom missing any Sunday morning, Sunday night, or Wednesday night service. She was active in her community being honored as New Boston Woman of the Year, received the Prestigious Loyd Wilson Community Service Award and was the ABWA Woman of the Year before moving to Palacios.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Anne Rackley Tucker and husband Dan of Palacios, grandchildren Marguary Lentz Schmitt and her husband Russ of Richmond, Texas; Daniel Tucker and wife Sandra of Palacios; great grandchildren, Lentz and Lanae Tucker of Palacios and Hallie and Bailey Schmitt of Richmond, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, her three brothers and two sisters. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4pm until 6pm Sunday at the Palacios Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Monday, January 27, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. Chris Webb officiating. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at rural Red Bayou Cemetery in New Boston, Texas. Pallbearers are Scott Kurtz, Rodney Girndt, James Kubecka, Tommy Reynolds, Roy Mills, and Ronnie Callahan. Honorary Pallbearers are Billy Hamlin, Charlie Michalik, Bill Yeager and Leo Neuszer. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to First Baptist Church, 202 Main Street, Palacios, Texas 77465; or Palacios 4-H, FFA, and FHA Supporters, P.O. Box 844, Palacios, Texas 77465.
