Thelma Marie McKissick

Thelma Marie McKissick was born to John Abner Jones and Edna Lou Smith on October 21, 1923, in Lewisville, Arkansas. She went to her heavenly home at the age of 102 on August 28, 2026.

If there is a PA system in heaven, Thelma might be heard announcing the sale of fresh hot bread. She retired from H.E.B. at the age of 82 after many years in the bakery.

Gyle Thompson McKissick and Thelma made their home in Buckeye, Tx after marrying on June 15, 1954. They had two sons, Michael Lee and Gyle David.

Thelma is survived by daughter, Wanda Maxey (William) of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter-in-law, Debbie (Michael) of Palacios; 15 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren, 14 great, great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband Gyle Mcissick; daughters, Rose Marie Moser, and Gail Luna; sons, George Cassel, Michael McKissick, and Gyle David McKissick; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; half-brother, Johnny Jones; half-sisters, Katherine Jones and Jeannie Jones.

Visitation will be held at 1pm with services beginning at 2pm, Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City, TX. Burial will follow at Ashby Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Rev. Scott Patz. Pallbearers are Daniel Boehm, Shane Luna, Michael McKissick, Matthew McKissick, Ethan Ryman, and Ethan Kolar. Honorary pallbearer is Colby McKissick.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Angels Hospice and Matagorda Nursing and Rehab Center.
