Terry Lee Gilmer, Sr., 76, of Humble, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024. Born on November 17, 1947, to Joyce Lorraine Gilmer, Jr. and Alma Darline Harmon, Terry lived a life defined by service, strength, and devotion to family and country.

After graduating from school, Terry enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving with the 101st Airborne Division, known as the "Screaming Eagles." In 1967, he was deployed to Vietnam, where he completed two tours. During his service, Terry was wounded and transported to a hospital in Japan, after which he received an honorable discharge on January 10, 1973. His bravery and dedication were recognized through numerous medals and commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, and the prestigious Bronze Star Medal.

Terry grew up in Humble alongside his twin brother, Jerry Lynn Gilmer, and siblings James Marvin Gilmer, David Louis Gilmer, and Sheryl Joyce Vasek. His family was the center of his world, and the bonds he built with them were unbreakable.

Terry was married to the love of his life for over 50 years, and together they built a beautiful family. He is survived by their three sons: Thomas Scott Gilmer, married to Alma Gilmer; Jason Michael Gilmer; and Terry Lee Gilmer Jr., lovingly known as JR. His family was his pride and joy, especially his grandchildren: Kevin, Daniel, Matthew, Haley, Rayne and Chloe, as well as his great-grandchildren: Dalilah, Kaira, Kevin Jr., Charlee and Ryan.

Terry's life of service, both in the military and as a loving family man, leaves behind a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and love. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and many loved ones, who will always remember his strength and kindness.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Methodist Church in Matagorda; 496 Fisher St., Matagorda, TX.  Following the service, we will proceed to Matagorda Cemetery for the interment of his cremated remains.

Afterward, please join us at Matagorda Fireman's Hall at 683 Market St. where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate the life of Terry Lee Gilmer, Sr.
