Sylvia Garza Rodriguez, a long-time resident of Sugar Valley, TX. passed away at her home on Monday, January 8, 2018.

Sylvia was born June 21, 1948 in Kingsville, TX. Her family moved to Houston, TX in 1964 before settling down at their permanent residence in Sugar Valley. Sylvia attended and graduated from Van Vleck High School. It is there she found the love of her life, Juan A. Rodriguez, Sr. They got married on November 20, 1968. After having four children, she started working at VVISD on January 11, 1982 and retired June 2, 2011.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Israel Alaniz and Elena Medina Garza, and eldest brother Mario Medina Garza.

Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Juan A. Rodriguez, Sr.; daughter, Anna Linda Cortez (Mike) of Rosenberg, TX; son Adam Rodriguez (Angela) of Orange, TX; daughter Joe Ann Rodriguez Balles (Ruben) of Wharton, TX and son, Juan A. Rodriguez, Jr. of Sugar Valley, TX; 10 grandchildren and one great-grand child. She is also survived by her sister, Diana Villarreal of Cypress, TX. and two brothers, Jose Medina Garza (Alicia) of Clute, TX and Daniel Garza (Gloria) of Wharton, TX.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 6:30 pm at Peace Tabernacle in Wharton, TX.
