Obituary

Another angel has joined God's ranks leaving us here to celebrate the life of one who gave so much now standing at Heaven's gate.

Syleta was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 3, 1941 to Macom Hornsby and Flossye Allen Hornsby. She went to her heavenly reward on October 27, 2010. She will forever be remembered for her love, kindness, and generous spirit.

Syleta is survived by her husband of 23 years, Jim Halbert. She is also survived by her brother: Macom "Rusty" Hornsby (Pat) of Garland, TX; sister: Loyce "Tuffy" Dehler of Mooreburg, FL; brothers-in-law: Rick Beauchamp of Gainesville, TX, Douglas Halbert (Randi) of San Clemente, CA; son: John Beaty (Tanja) of Houston, TX; daughters: Raychel Lhea Lee of McKinney, TX, Anna Colleen Finder (Kenny) of Lewisville, TX, Bridgen Ruth Clevenger (Dale) of Frisco, TX; stepdaughter: Karen Cunningham (Brian) of Bay City, TX; grandchildren: Jake & Robb Lee of McKinney, TX, Katy & Sara Sutton of Lewisville, TX, Jonathan Beaty & Amy Clevenger of Frisco, TX, Robyn Stevenson of Bay City, TX, James Shipp (Coryne) of Cedar Park, TX; great grandchildren: Roman & Alexa Stevenson of Bay City, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Eddye Beauchamp.

Syleta cherished her family and had great pride and joy in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Every year, she composed a Christmas newsletter giving updates on everyone with emphasis on everyone's accomplishments. The newsletters were sent as their Christmas cards to a vast host of family and friends.

She enjoyed life to the fullest with gusto, good humor, and joy. She was an avid bowler and served BCWBA in many capacities including president. She became a NASCAR and IRL enthusiast after marrying Jim. Syleta enjoyed the company of her friends while bowling, camping, motorcycling, and volunteering in numerous charitable organizations.

She loved to read and showed her talent as a writer with her articulation and command of the English language. She wrote for several bowling publications locally, statewide, and nationally. She was a member of the Texas Bowling Writers and a life member of the National Bowling Writers.

Syleta shared her musical talents as an organist for Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and singing in the choir as well.

Syleta devoted her life to helping others through the Pilot Club and Road Rider's Toys for Kids. She was a faithful member of the Matagorda County Cavalry showing great appreciation and patriotism to all who have served and presently serve our country. She also actively participated in the political process.

One of her greatest joys was the time and adventures she shared with the love of her life and soul mate, Jim.

A Rosary will be on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. Mass will be on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 12th Street and Avenue D, Bay City, Texas.
