Kathrien Sue Porter Sump, 78, of Bay City passed away August 18, 2014. She was born August 1, 1936 in Bay City, TX to the late William F. Porter and Laura B. Oates Porter.
Sue and her loving and devoted husband, Ladell H. Sump, celebrated 57 years of marriage on June 2, 2014. She worked along with her husband for many years as co-owner of Sump's Appliance Care & Air and was a devoted member of the First Christian Church.
Sue graduated from Bay City High School in 1954. She attended the Houston School of Dance post- graduation and taught dance in Bay City, El Campo, and Palacios for many years. She attended the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ all of her life. Sue was a church elder, chairman of the board and a Sunday School teacher. She loved singing with her beautiful alto voice in the church choir. She was involved in the Bay City Garden Club, Historical Commission, Bay City High School band aide and Aristocat dance team mom, and Little League Parent Association.
She was preceded in death by her sister June Evelyn Brown, brother Ted Eugene Brown, sister-in-law, Johnnie Brown, and niece, Diana Sue Brown. Survivors include her husband, Ladell H. Sump, of Bay City; daughter, Gretchen Sump Mills, & her husband, Richard of Sugar Land; son, Jonathan Dale Sump, & his wife, Jeri Lyn, of Austin; brother, William "Bill" Brown, & his wife, Carlene, of Bastrop and grandchildren, Kimberlee Sue (Sump) Ralph & her husband, Benjamin, Timothy Dale Sump, Bethany Lyn Sump and Rowan Elizabeth Mills.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Tom Quirk officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dale Sump, Timothy Sump, Richard Mills, Benjamin Ralph, Charles Brown and Larry Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Spoonemore, Gary Brown and Al Gajeske.
