Obituary

Stephen Wayne Matchett, 39, of Van Vleck went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 10, 2021.  He was born June 24, 1982 in Bay City to Larry Wayne Matchett and Susan Lowery Matchett.

Stephen was a lifelong resident of Van Vleck, TX where he graduated from high school in 2000. He married Amy, his childhood friend, June 30, 2007. Hand in hand, they created a beautiful life together with their two daughters. He was beyond proud of his girls, their accomplishments and ambitious goals. He was always there for them and willing to sacrifice everything to help them succeed in whatever they did. Stephen loved his family more than anything, but he also loved the comradery between himself and his friends. He enjoyed being the life of the party, made friends wherever he went and never met a stranger. To know him was to love him because he had a heart of gold. We believe he missed his professional calling as an impersonator, but we were lucky enough to enjoy his comical entertainment on a daily basis. While Stephen's pancreatic cancer took him from us way too soon, the support and prayers along his journey was nothing short of amazing.

Survivors include his wife Amy Krobot Matchett; his parents Larry and Susie Matchett; his daughters Lakyn K Matchett and Laynee Klare Matchett; his brother Matthew Allen Matchett as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members. Stephen is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Gladys Shirley Lowery, paternal grandparents, Kelly and Peggy Matchett, and Uncle Paul Lowery.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church.  Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM with Rev. Lane ParDue officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Dale Klepac, Cory Pierce, Brian Holliday, Matthew Hackworth, Philip Steinmann, Stanley Spurr, Matthew Matchett and Da'Mian Matchett.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amy Matchett for the Stephen Strong memorial fund directly or at TDECU.
