Stephen Mark Hughes, 69, of Bay City passed away December 13, 2025.  He was born September 30, 1956 in Searcy, Arkansas to the late Charles Calvin Hughes and Ella Odean Manning Hughes.

"Steve" (as most people knew him by), grew up in the Ozarks of Central Arkansas. He met his wife, Peggy, at Harding University, in Searcy, AR. He worked in retail for over 40 years and spent over 20 years with O'Reilly Auto Parts in management prior to retirement. He was an avid motorcycle/car enthusiast, animal lover, and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a loyal and good friend to many. His love of his animals was very well known as a part of his nature. He loved his family. As his children had their own children, he grew into the role as a loving grandfather. He is now at peace with Peggy, whom he missed dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy White Hughes.

Survivors include daughters Tiffany Romero and Christie Fox; son Stephen Hughes, Jr.; sisters Debbie Roetzel and Judy Loughridge and grandchildren Carrigan Hughes, Colin Hughes, Brigid Fox, Raelee Fox, Fiona Fox and Leighton Hughes.

He will be dearly missed by all of his surviving family and friends.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be at 3:00 PM.  Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, December 22, 2025 at Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery in Goldthwaite, Texas.
