Silvia "Spooky" Cervantes, 52, of Sugar Valley, passed away June 19, 2007 in Bay City. She was born April 23, 1955 in Refugio, TX to Benito Cortinas, Jr. and Diane Nunez Bernal. She has been a resident of Sweeny for the past 22 years and was a member of the Catholic Church.
She is survived by husband: Richard Cervantes, Sr. of Sugar Valley; her mother: Diane Bernal and husband Eddie of Bay City; her father: Benito Cortinas Jr. and wife Maria Louisa of Van Vleck; by her daughter: Cristina Cervantes and husband Smiley Huerta of Bay City; and by her sons: Richard Cervantes, Jr. and wife Theresa of Bay City, Randy Cervantes & wife Michelle of Van Vleck, Rolando Cervantes and Ryan Cervantes, both of Sugar Valley. She is also survived by her sisters: Maria Diaz, Hilda Mireles, Nancy Cortinas and Pat Cortinas; by her brothers: Rene Cortinas, Ricardo Cortinas, Sr., Ruben Cortinas, Rudy Cortinas, Robert Cortinas and Thomas Cortinas; and by nine grandchildren.
The Rosary will be held at 7 PM Friday and Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Joey Cervantes, Leonard Fernandez, Robert Harrison, Tony Alvorado, Rocky Martinez, Leo Silva, Eric Cortinas and Richard Cortinas, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Elvis Cortinas, Raymond Garcia and Brandon Rogers.
