Shirley Joan Latham, 84, of Bay City passed away April 15, 2017. She was born November 21, 1932, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Paul Lewis and Thelma DeHart.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Latham, son Jimmy Latham, granddaughter Courtney Clements, brother-in-law Sonny Callaway and her step-father Paris A. Smith.
Survivors include her daughters Lisa Moore of San Marcos, Linda Welch Holmstrom & husband John of Jonah, and Lila Clements & husband Dee of Bay City; sister Pat Callaway of Houston; brother Bill Nordyke & wife Amanda of Cincinnati; grandchildren Elisabeth Darnell & husband Tim, Tom Moore, Jr. & wife Sandi, Creighton Welch & wife Michelle, Cody Welch and Genevieve Monroe, Dalton Clements, Dustin Clements & wife Ariel, and Karina Clements; and six great grandchildren Timothy, Demaris, Cloe, Trace, Brayden and Henry.
Shirley proudly attended the Hockaday School for Girls in Dallas, Texas. Upon completion, she attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Texas at Austin. While at UT, she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority.For the rest of her life, Shirley was a dedicated and faithful fan of the Texas Longhorns and the Houston Astros.
Her history degree served her well in her daily crossword puzzle successes, and the whole family knew to ask Mimi what a word meant before they asked Google. Her other past-times included playing golf, competing in bridge games and volunteering at the Bay City Public Library, which was convenient because she read almost every book available.
Shirley's true passion was her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her endless joy, laughter and love.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted by Pastor Tim Darnell at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
