Shelby Lynn Williamson Estlinbaum, 71, of Bay City passed away on May 22, 2010. She was born on January 31, 1939 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Cecil and Chloe Williamson. She moved with her family to Bay City from Torrance, California, in 1947 and resided in Bay City for 63 years. Shelby is survived by her supporting and loving husband of 50 years, John "Hoody" Estlinbaum. She is also survived by her sons Craig Estlinbaum and his wife, Julie; and Mike Estlinbaum and his wife Jessica. She is survived by 3 grandchildren-grandsons Drew Estlinbaum and Matthew Estlinbaum and granddaughter Shelby Estlinbaum. Her survivors also include her brother Mike Willamson and his wife Kay of Houston, Texas and their daughter, Jodi and her children, Kristen and Cole Matteson, also of Houston. Shelby was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she was an elementary age Sunday School teacher and music leader for 35 years. She was awarded Wesley Class Mother of the Year in 1975 in recognition of her service to church and family. Shelby earned her teaching degree from UH-Victoria and began her 25-year teaching career in the Tidehaven ISD. She later taught third grade at Tenie Holmes Elementary in Bay City for years. She was a founding organizer of Young Author's Day. She enjoyed traveling, including to Mexico, Egypt, Israel, the Scandinavias and the British Isles. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching baseball games, dance recitals and fair competitions. She also enjoyed going to deer camp with Hoody and her family. Shelby's community involvement included volunteering in her sons' activities, notably, Bay City Little League and Cub Scouts. She was a member of the Bay City Junior Service League and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She had a passion for the Matagorda County Museum, where she was on the Board of Directors, and past president and founder of Gourmet Guys. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, photography, southwest art and scrapbooking. Shelby will be remembered for her kind heart, her generous spirit and her zest for adventure. She is deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City with Rev. Chris Harrison and Rev. Pauline Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers will be Doug Huebner, David Kristynik, Billy Mann, Malcolm Romine, William Townsend and Greg Westmoreland. The family request no flowers. Donations may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Bay City, the Matagorda County Museum, or a charity of choice.
