Scott Lee Peden was born on the 4th of December, 1945 in Houston, Texas to Lois Lee Peden and Judge Phil Peden. Scott, 80, passed away in Houston, Texas, on Friday, August 7th, 2026.

Scott grew up in Houston in West University and graduated from Lamar High School. He later attended the University of Texas at Austin and was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, forming lifelong friendships that he treasured.

In May of 1981, he married his beloved wife, Janet Lewis Peden, and they made their home in Bay City, Texas, where they built a life full of love, laughter, and friendship, along with their son, John Hawkins Peden.

He built a respected career as a real estate appraiser and had a lifelong appreciation for architecture and home design. Known for his fun-loving and outgoing nature, he always appreciated a funny joke and a good time. He loved to travel and enjoy life.

Scott had a passion for planting trees, especially live oaks. He formed an organization called Trees for Bay City and over the course of a few years more than a hundred live oaks were planted around school campuses and other public spaces in Bay City.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Lois Lee and Judge Phil Peden.

He is survived by his wife Janet; his son, John Peden; daughter-in-law, Leah Peden; grandchildren, Charles Hawkins “Chip” Peden and Clara Hines Peden; his brother, Phil Peden, Jr. and wife Rose, his nephew, Jeff Peden, great nephews Gray, John Gates and Gardner Peden, and his niece Jennifer Hamelet, along with many relatives and dear friends.

Scott will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, and his special love of golden retrievers. His laughter and love of life will be deeply missed.
