Satero "Blackie" Perez Martinez, Jr., 72, of Bay City passed away December 25, 2020. He was born October 12, 1948 in Houston, TX to the late Satero G. Martinez and Ofelia Perez Martinez.
He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. At a dance in El Campo, Texas on April 11, 1971 he met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Rojas, who was from Palacios. That same year, he began working at Dow Chemical as a Piping Designer and retired in 2013 as an Electrical Designer.
He was a member of Harvest Time Church and the VFW Post 2438.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Leonor Salinas and Ofelia Cano; brothers Enrique Martinez, Armando Martinez and Abel Martinez and grandson Micah Treylan Martinez.
Survivors include his wife Mary Ellen Martinez; 3 children Amanda (James) Rhoades, Kristy (James) Averitt and Satero Marcos Martinez and grandchildren Mallory, Christian, and Jonathan Rhoades, Kristiana and Courtney Sorrells and Caleb Mankey.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Harvest Time Church. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM with Rev. Noe Cano officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Rhoades, James Averitt, Christian Rhoades, Jonathan Rhoades, Caleb Mankey and Travis Alford. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Martinez, Satero Marcos Martinez, Gonzalo Martinez and Daniel Martinez.
