Sara Lopez Cortinas, 89, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 in Bay City, Texas. She was born April 3, 1931 in Lockhart, Texas to the late Emilio and Refugio Lopez.

Sara loved spending time cooking for her family, gardening and sewing. In her early years she was a migrant worker who traveled all over the country. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When she was not indoors reading her Bible or watching her favorite tv shows, she could be found near her flower beds watering her plants. Even in her late years, Sara was eager to be in the kitchen cooking for her family, especially when it came to making tamales.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Samuel Cortinas and daughter Maria Sanchez.  She is survived by her daughters; Maria Cortinas of Bay City and Rosalinda Wetz (Mike) of Boling, Texas; son Juan Covarrubias of Palau, Mexico; brothers: Abel Lopez of Pierdas Negras, Mexico and Aaron Lopez of Eagle Pass; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 1:00-2:00 pm Monday, March 8, 2021 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas.
