Obituary

Sandra Kaye Claybourn, a beacon of love and faith, was born on May 8, 1947, in Abilene, Texas. She peacefully entered eternal rest on December 5, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who knew her. Sandra's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of devotion, creativity, and an unwavering faith that guided her every step.

Growing up in the close-knit community of Bay City, Texas, Sandra's early years were filled with laughter and learning. She graduated from Bay City High School in 1965, a milestone that marked the beginning of a journey defined by passion and purpose. Sandra's love for beauty and style led her to pursue a career in cosmetology, where she not only honed her skills but also touched the lives of many with her warmth and talent. Owning her own beauty shop, she transformed it into a haven of creativity and friendship, where clients became lifelong friends.

Sandra's creativity knew no bounds. Beyond her professional life, she found joy in crafts, such making her own jewelry and greeting cards, cake decorating, and particularly crocheting, where each stitch was a testament to her patience and artistry.  She generously gifted family and friends with her creations. Her adventurous spirit took her on journeys by air, train, and cruise ship, exploring new places and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Family was the cornerstone of Sandra's life. She was preceded in death by her father, Maurice Morris Smith, her mother, Virginia Forrest Tanner, her sister, Chrysteen Marie Kuhns, and the love of her life, and husband of 30 years, Jon N. Claybourn, Sr. Yet, her legacy of love continues through her sons, Christopher Morris Johnston and his wife Veta, and Leslie Eugene Johnston. Her stepsons, Jon N. Claybourn, Jr., Guy Lane Claybourn and his wife Christine, and Michael Lacey Claybourn and his wife Diana, hold her memory close to their hearts.

Sandra's spirit shines brightly in her grandchildren: Lauren Schyler Broussard, Grant Christopher Johnston, Kayla Ballard, Stephanie Ramirez, Becca Claybourn, Guy Claybourn, Christi Batchelor, Jo Marie Salter, Michael Claybourn, Jr., Jennifer Calderon, and Clarisa Claybourn. Her love extends to her 19 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.

A devoted Christian, Sandra's life was a testament to her deep faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Her family finds solace in the belief that she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Jon, in their heavenly home, embraced by the love of her Savior.

Sandra Kaye Claybourn's legacy is one of love, faith, and creativity. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her, a reminder of the beauty and joy she brought into the world. May her soul rest in peace, forever embraced by the love she so generously shared.
