Ruth Mallard Lowrey, 92, passed away April 30th at Matagorda Regional Medical Center. She was born September 17th 1919, in Coushatta, Louisiana to the late Grady B. and Sallie G. Powell. She moved to Bay City at age 16 after completing high school and attending Business School in Shreveport.
She was employed by Sears in Bay City for many years. After retirement she was an active volunteer at the library and hospital auxiliary as well as the garden club and bird club. She was a member of the choir at the First United Methodist Church for 61 years.
She lived for the past few years in assisted living at The Legacy in Bay City, and remained active and wrote the song "Church in the Hallway" for the Methodist Service held at The Legacy on Wednesday. The hymnal was called "The Legacy Hymnal-The Lowrey Edition."
She married Richard "Dick" Anderson Mallard in 1940 in Bay City, and they were married until his death in 1982. She married Bill Lowrey in 1988 and was married until his death in 2004.
She is survived by her son, Jay Anderson Mallard and his wife Janet of Angleton; a daughter, Sally Mallard Rogers of Pittsburg, TX; 2 grandchildren, Cristina Mallard-Bru and her husband Jose of Mason, Ohio, and Richard Anderson Mallard II and his wife Jessica of Austin; and she had four great grandchildren, Roman Alexander Bru, Christopher Jay Bru, Iliana Avonelle Mallard, and Olivia Lynn Mallard.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Bay City with Chaplain Don Storey and Rev. Pauline Harvey Storey officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers will be: Richard Anderson Mallard II, Albert "Buzz" Riis-Due, K. Franks, Mike Lowrey, and G. P. Hardy III. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Richard Starnes, Bill Lowrey, Art Lowrey, Harry Mallard, Richard Mallard, Jeff Mallard, and Neal Mallard.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the Bay City Public Library.
