IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth Ann
Gillette
February 14, 1939 – July 12, 2025
Ruth Ann, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 12,2025 at the age of 86. She was born on February 14, 1939, in Port Arthur, Texas, to her parents William "Bill" Stevenson and Olabell Talbert Stevenson who were both called home to heaven before her.
In 1959, she married Lannie Ray Gillette, in Port Arthur, Texas beginning a marriage full of love, faith, and devotion that spanned decades until his passing.
She is survived by her loving children: Sharon Stewart (Rusty), Steven Ray Gillette (Stephanie), and Shelly Gillette; and her cherished grandchildren: Jenna and Jalynn Stewart; Jack Gillette (Charisa) and Joan; Lincoln Gillette (Ella); and Lucie Gillette. She also leaves behind her sisters, Sara Broussard (Jim) and Becky Beresford, as well as extended family and many dear friends.
A graduate of Lamar University (then Lamar State College of Technology), she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Throughout her life, she shared her talents generously, managing finances for seven different churches, a public library, and a social services agency. A gifted pianist and organist, she played in various churches and accompanied the Palacios High School choir for several years. Her heart for ministry led her to teach Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, serve as a missions director at a church in Virginia, and faithfully support the work of First Baptist Church of Palacios, where she had been a member since 2004.
She found joy in reading mystery novels, solving puzzles, sewing, and playing bridge with her friends. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her home was a cherished gathering place for her children and their families, who often returned to spend time on the water, share meals, play games, and make lasting memories together. Getting to meet and love on her first great-grandchild, Joan, was a treasured delight.
Having defeated breast cancer in 1997 and faced lymphoma with courage and perseverance for seven years, she lived her life with grace, humor, faith, and resilience. Her legacy is one of unwavering love, faithfulness, and service.
In her last months, she often quoted Philippians 4:6–7, reminding us of the peace that carried her through life: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Reflecting on her story, she said: "It's been a very interesting life. I enjoyed it." And oh, how she made life more wonderful for those around her. Ruth Ann was a reflection of quiet strength and steadfast faith, and she now rests in the presence of the Lord she loved and served so faithfully. Her gentle presence, warm laughter, and loving heart will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM with James Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Palacios; 202 Main St.; Palacios, TX 77465.
