Obituary

Rufus Eldon Adams, 85, of Palacios passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007. He was born Nov. 26, 1921 in Kosse to the late Jesse Jerome and Hattie Ford Allen Adams. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1942; through March 1946. His combat troop "T" Force, 6th Army Group received commendation for their performance as an intelligence assault force in Alsace and in Germany during World War II. His troop also was responsible for retrieving stolen artwork that Herrman Goering had hidden in a cave in Berchtesgaden in 1945. He married "his girl" Bennye Dean Humphres on Sept 21, 1946. Rufus loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed working outdoors, golfing, camping, water skiing, and racing boats. He retired from the Palacios Independent School District where he worked as the transportation director. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by: his wife: Bennye Adams of Palacios; daughter: Carol Spree of Victoria; son: Jim Alan Adams of Richmond; 2 sisters: Janie Humphrey of Kosse and Betty Ruth Robbins of Marlin; brother: Jimmy Adams of Pasadena; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; sister: Lytle Adams; and brother: Howard Adams. Special thanks to Pat and Robert Solis for their many years of care.
A Graveside service with full military honors was held 1:00 PM Friday, March 16, 2007 at Kosse City Cemetery with Rev. Tom Vance officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of South Texas. Arrangements with Palacios Funeral Home, 361 -972-2012.
