Ruby Sanders Penland, 71, of Palacios passed away August 12, 2007. She was born July 14, 1936 in Palacios to the late Robert and Daisy Mae Scott Sanders. She was a legal secretary for Eli Mayfield for many years and later worked for the Trull Foundation and in banking.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Paulette Penland of Palacios; son Ronald Keith Penland of Palacios, sister Jessie Sanders Hairston of Houston; brothers Robert Franklin Sanders of Palacios and Ronald Dean Sanders of Katy; eight grandchildren Tiffany Mooney, Kimberly Ficarra, Paula Penland, Kelli Divers, Aaron Rodriguez, Christopher & Josh Clifton and Paul Michael Penland; eleven great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Mitchell Penland; daughter Denise Dawn Clifton and son Paul Mitchell Penland, Jr.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. John Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Penland, Christopher Clifton, Josh Clifton, John Mark Hafernick, Rocky Sheffield and Gary Hafernick. Memorials may be made to Houston Hospice, 1102 N.
