Obituary

Ruben Longoria, Sr., 73, of Katy, Texas, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born on September 30, 1951, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Ricardo Longoria and Hortencia Hernandez Longoria.

Ruben lived a life defined by faith, integrity, and devotion. He was a man whose presence brought joy, comfort, and laughter to all who knew him. God truly blessed us with one of the best. Someone who loved deeply, gave selflessly, and lived with a servant's heart. He was steadfast in his faith, guided by a high moral compass, and unwavering in his commitment to doing what was right. Though a man of few words, when he spoke, his words carried weight and wisdom.

For 53 years, he was a devoted husband to his sweetheart, Alvina, loving her with an unshakable commitment that served as an example to everyone around him. As a father, he was proud and supportive; as a grandfather, lovingly known as "Popo." He was tender, present, and deeply cherished. His family was his life's greatest joy, and his love for them knew no bounds.

Ruben had many passions that reflected his character, BBQ'ing for his family, watching his grandsons play ball, Fishing along the Gulf Coast, watching the Houston Texans, and caring for his prized 1957 Chevy Bel Air, named "Ruby." He was a man of quiet reflection, often spending time in his office studying, writing heartfelt notes to his loved ones, and placing scriptures throughout his home as daily reminders of God's promises.

His work ethic was second to none. For over four decades, Ruben served as a pipeliner and expert product controller for Union Carbide, now Dow Chemical Company. His dedication, reliability, and willingness to help others earned him deep respect among his colleagues.

As we honor his life, we remember not only the man he was, but the values he instilled faith, love, humility, and strength.

Ruben is preceded in death by his parents, Hortencia Hernandez Longoria, Ricardo Longoria; his brothers, Richard Longoria, Michael Longoria; nephew, Emilio Ray Longoria; and niece, Tara Figueroa Berg. He is survived by his loving wife, Alvina Longoria; his children, Ruben Longoria Jr. (Careen), Mark Anthony Longoria (Shannon), Veronica Lynette Rodriguez (Eugene), and Monica Elaine Longoria; his grandchildren, Mikaela Marie Longoria, Kyleigh Jai-Lynn Rodriguez, Alaina Avery Longoria, Noah Eugene Rodriguez, Callie Caitlyn Longoria, and Mark Anthony Longoria II; his sisters, Hortencia Zavala, Virginia Garcia, Rachel Ramirez; his brother, Abel Tamez; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, 2313 Avenue I, Bay City, Texas. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, with Pastor Larry Helms officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas.
