Roy Christian Jensen, 99, of Bay City, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at his residence.
Roy was born on January 14, 1911 in the Sandy Corners area of Wharton County to parents Jens Christian and Johanna Sorensen Jensen. He moved to the Blessing area at an early age and began farming at the age of 17. He farmed with his father and eventually bought his on farm south of Blessing where he farmed cotton, corn, and maize and did some ranching for over fifty years until his retirement in the early 1980's. He and his wife then moved to Wharton where they lived for twenty-six years. He had recently moved to Bay City. Roy was also a member of the Danavang Farmers CO-OP, and served several years as a member of the Matagorda County Drainage District. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lola, a daughter, Chrisey, four brothers and four sisters. Roy is survived by a son and his wife, Larry and Janet Jensen of Billings, Montana, a daughter and her husband, June and Ronnie Rowland of Bay City, grandchildren, Karen and her husband Paul Matocha of Ganado, Casey and his wife Karen Jensen of College Station, Louis Ducros of Clute, Jules Ducros of Wharton, Ashley Rowland of Bay City, Tracy and husband Kyle Lilly of San Antonio, Christopher Robb of Houston and Kimberly Robb of Billings, Montana. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Saturday July 24 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bay City Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery near Blessing. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Services are under the direction of BAY CITY FUNERAL HOME.
