Romona Dell Lafferty Davis, 86, entered into eternal rest on June 14, 2017, Bay City, Texas. She was born August 11, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to her parents Charles Edward Lafferty and Anna Dell Lafferty Mangum, and fifteen minutes after her twin sister, Coloma.
Romona and her family moved to Bay City when she was 6 years old. She graduated from Bay City High School in 1947 and from there a student at St. Joseph's School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She was a Registered Nurse with Matagorda General Hospital for many years and later moved to Palestine, Texas and was a nurse at Palestine Memorial Hospital until she retired.
Romona devoted many years to the Presbyterian Church. First Presbyterian Church, Bay City, First Presbyterian Church, Palestine and St. Thomas Presbyterian Church in Houston. After moving back to Bay City in 2007, she was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, Bay City. She loved the Lord's creation of nature - flowers, birds, especially hummingbirds, and the beach. She loved her career of nursing and caring for others. Reading was her hobby, the Bible, devotionals and Christian fiction books. Cats were very special to her and gave her much joy.
Romona was a wonderful daughter, sister, nurse, friend but most of all, a loving Mother. She will be greatly missed by her three daughters. She always put her daughters first in her life and taught them about the love of God.
Romona was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Lafferty, mother, Anna Lafferty Mangum, step-father Harvey Mangum, twin sister, Coloma Dell Lafferty and her grand-daughter Brandy Lynn Etheridge. She is survived by her three daughters, Hazel Ann Davis Saunders (Darwin Saunders) of Macon, GA, Sandra Kay Davis Burleson (Pat Burleson) of Kingwood, TX, Rebecca Lynn Davis Etheridge of Bay City, TX; grandchildren, Tiffany Ann Burleson Cherry of Rosenberg, TX, Keith Kolwes of Houston, TX, Eli Saunders of Macon, GA, Sandy Saunders of Greenville, SC, Carrie Saunders Price of Lexington, KY, Andrea Saunders Woodward Frankfort, KY, Christy Saunders of Macon, GA, Traci Saunders Baggarly of Macon, GA and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas, with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Private graveside services will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, TX.
The family extends a special thanks to Houston Hospice El Campo and the many private aides who cared for her in the last year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Bay City, American Cancer Society or SPCA.
