Obituary

Romana "Mona" Tamez Rodriguez was the heart of her family and a light to everyone who knew her.  She passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, at the age of 87.  Born on June 26, 1938, in La Palmita, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Eliseo Tamez and Teresa Olivares Tamaz, Mona lived a life rooted in love, generosity and an unshakable devotion to the people she held dear.

Mona had a way of making everyone feel welcome.  Her smile could brighten a room, and her laughter made even ordinary moments feel special. She loved to dance, to cook, and to gather the people she loved around her table.  Her kitchen was more than a place to prepare meals – it was where stories were shared, bonds were strengthened, and memories were made.  If you were in Mona's home, you were family.

Serving others came naturally to Mona.  She gave her time, her energy, and her heart to her community, always willing to help wherever she was needed.  She never sought recognition – her reward was simply knowing she had made a difference.  Her kindness, compassion, and quiet leadership touched countless lives and will not be forgotten.

Above all else, Mona cherished her family.  She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Charlie, and a proud, loving mother who found her greatest joy in her children.  Her guidance, strength, and unconditional love shaped her family and will continue to live on through them.

Mona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charlie Rodriguez, and her beloved daughter, Elda Rodriguez, honorary son, Felix Cardenas, sister Olga Correa and brother-in-law Jose Correa, whom she missed deeply and carried in her heart every day.

She is survived by her children Elia Rodriguez and Carlos "Charlie" Rodriguez and his wife, Jessica.  She was a proud and loving grandmother to Christopher Rodriguez, Anisa Rodriguez, Nicholas Rodriguez, and Isabella Rodriguez, each of whom brought her immense joy.  She is also lovingly remembered by her bonus grandchildren Charles Vasut, Mary Ann Santos, Patricia Cardina, and Kaicen Lemons.  Mona is survived by her brothers Oscar Tamez and his wife Ofelia, Luis "Chito" Tamez, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family along with many dear friends who were blessed to experience her love and friendship.

Though she is no longer with us, Mona's love remains – felt in family gatherings, shared meals, laughter, and the countless memories she created.  Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family wishes to extend a sincere Gratitude to Angels Hospice, Marley Fernandez, Frankie Pace, Crystal Anzaldua White, Tammy Jordan, Rosa Sanchez, Tiffany Villarreal, and Eusebia Martinez.  Thank you for showing our Grandmother, Mother, Sister an unprecedented amount of compassionate care.  Your peaceful presence will forever remain in our hearts.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.  A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM.  Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
