Robert William Craft, Sr. ("Bob") was born March 3, 1935 to Margaret Mearns and Frank D. Craft.
Bob attended school in Bay City, graduating from Bay City High School Class of 1953. He played many sports, including All-District center position for the Blackcat football team. He was voted Senior Class Favorite. He attended Texas A&M University and University of Texas at Austin.
He was employed as a summer intern in accounting for Phillips Petroleum in Old Ocean, Texas.
During the Suez Canal Crisis, he spent six months active duty and six years in the Reserves for the U.S. Air Force in San Antonio, Texas, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, Texas.
On December 23, 1958, nearly fifty years ago, he married Mona Jean Guidry.
He started his married life working as a bookkeeper for Otis Russell Drilling Company. Soon after, he became a retail furniture store manager. He managed the furniture store in Bay City for over forty years. He loved his work and his customers loved him.
His hobbies included softball, golf, coaching Little League baseball, and farming St. Augustine turf. He was proud to have sold grass to the developers of Astroworld in Houston. He attended Holy Cross Catholic Church and volunteered there as a teacher of catechism classes to eighth graders.
He is survived by five children: Rob, Chris, Neal, Candace, and Nikki and eight grandchildren: Michael, Steve, Courtney, Anna, Emily, Micah, and Logan Craft and Addison Smith. He was a real family man, totally devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He succumbed from multiple complications caused by type two diabetes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church Religious Education (CCD), or the charity of your choice.
The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Friday, at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
