Toney
June 23, 1942 – December 15, 2025
Robert L. Toney, 83, of Van Vleck passed away peacefully at his home on December 15, 2025. He was born June 23, 1942 in Wharton, Texas to the late Robert L. Toney, Sr. and Nora Faye Roebuck Toney.
Where do you begin talking about Robert Toney? The man never met a stranger, and after a conversation with him, felt like you had known him forever. Robert definitely made working a room an art form!
His love of sports started with baseball and football in School, to coaching and officiating football with the greatest referee team (his words) including C. V. McKelvy and John Nash. He loved life and you knew how much he cared by the amount of ribbing received! He and Barbara loved to hunt and stay at their deer camp in Brackettville. Robert loved music, and treasured his time with the Coastalaires!
Robert started out in life as an X-Ray Technician at Matagorda General Hospital but selling was his forte. His next adventure was the car business and anyone who dealt with Bay City Auto and Sales knew his infamous line…"this is a good deal, only $500 over invoice"!! He loved being in front of people most of all, and ended his career in their Farmers Insurance Agency with Barbara.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Helen Faye Ridenour, Ruth Shelly, Dorothy Spurney, and Dixie Wheeless, his brother Terry L. Toney and granddaughter Keisha Lynn Toney.
Survivors include his wife Barbara; children Donna Charleton (Dennis), Ronnie Toney (Jazmine), Cassandra Cohea (Anthony) and James Orr (Sophie); grandchildren Victor Lee (Vanessa) Everett, Jr., Leia Ruth (Tony) Toth, Brent Charleton, Jaclyn (Jeff) Calhoun, Lishell Toney, Alissa Toney (Angel), Ronald Toney, Jr., J.
