Memorial service for Robert Lee Slaughter will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 4, 2020 at Solid Rock Fellowship in Palacios, TX with Brother Vito Terrasas leading. Robert was born in Palacios on April 14, 1939 and passed away November 19, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lee Ander and Ruby Mae Slaughter and a brother, Norman Lee Slaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, LaNita; his daughter Marsha Garlene Kocurek of Bastrop, TX; his son Robert Lee Slaughter, Jr. (Debbie) of Angleton, TX and his sister Doris Harrison of Palacios. He is also survived by six grandchildren Derek Lee Slaughter (Hosanna), Bobby Lee Slaughter (Janna), Kyle Ander Slaughter f(Audrey), Samantha Danielle Kocurek (Christain Reyes), Tyler Lane Kocurek and Austin Thomas Hahn; nine great grandchildren Elaina Slaughter, Karter Slaughter, Ariella Slaughter, Rylie Slaughter, Maverick Slaughter, Lincoln Slaughter, Max Slaughter, Mia Slaughter and Benjamin Lee Reyes.

Robert grew up in Palacios, graduated from PHS in 1958 and went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. He coached and taught in Normangee, Schulenberg and in Louise, where he took his teams to State. Palacios was beckoning him, and when he was offered a position in the newly created Marine Science classes, he grabbed the opportunity to come home. As his grandchildren refer to him, "The Man, The Myth, The Legend", spent the next 4 decades teaching, shrimping and raising cattle. After retirement he continued raising cattle at his beloved Empty Pockets Ranch.

He had many friends who spent time on his back patio enjoying the cool breeze off of the bay and LaNita's sweet tea while solving world problems and dissecting local news. His quick acerbic wit took no prisoners. He was a special and unique man, and he will be missed.

A meal and reception will follow the service. Masks and social distancing are required at the church.
