Obituary

Dr. Robert E. Simons of Bay City passed away November 30, 2014. He was born in Newgulf, TX September 1, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. James W. and Anna Mae Simons and a brother, Dr. Jack H. Simons.

Bob loved God, his church, and his family; the joy of his life was his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, gardening and the beach.

Bob received his bachelor of science degree from Baylor University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Texas Dental School-Houston in 1963. He married Gayle Reeves in 1959. Upon graduating from Dental School, he proudly served in the U. S. Air Force at Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, NM. He & Gayle moved to Bay City in 1965, where he began his dental practice from which he retired in 2000. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Bay City. He had the great respect of all who knew him for his admirable qualities both as a Christian and as a man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years; sons Doyle Simons and wife Alane of Austin, TX, Dr. Dane Simons of Bay City; daughter Dawn Simons Carlson and husband John of Waco, TX; 6 grandchildren Kelsey and Kendall Simons, Madeline, Claire, and Lucas Carlson and Amber Simons. He is also survived by a brother J. W. Simons, Jr. and wife Ruth, his sister-in-law Diane Reeves, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Sandra Ford, Sara & Trey for their loving and compassionate care.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Bay City or a charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm until 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 1:30 pm Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Russ Munch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mr. Tom Fields, Mr. Lamar Evans, Mr. Scott Evans, Mr. Emil Sliva, Mr. George Durett and Mr. Roy Craft. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Barton Griffith, Dr. Tillman Daniel and Mr. Bill Wiginton.
