IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Bob"
Allen
January 12, 1927 – January 5, 2022
Robert Eugene "Bob" Allen, 94, of Bay City went home to be with the Lord January 5, 2022. He was born January 12, 1927 in Dodge City, Kansas to the late Nathan C. & Lela Kincaid Allen.
He was a follower of Jesus, a member of First Baptist Church of Bay City where he served as a teacher, deacon, greeter, and on many committees for almost fifty years. He was born in Dodge City, Kansas and graduated from high school in Greensburg, Kansas, after having spent a few years during the Dustbowl in Eugene, Oregon. At the age of 17, he entered the U. S. Navy during World War II, preparing to go to the Pacific front as an Aviation Machinist. At the close of the war, he returned to Kansas, met and married the love of his life, June Wood, and earned his degree in physics from Ottawa University. He worked for Northern Natural Gas Company, Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company and Celanese Chemical Corporation. His career with Celanese spanned over thirty years as a corrosion engineer. Among other things, he was responsible for projects at the Pampa plant and ultimately maintained the Bay City plant supervising that group.
He supported his community by serving as the election judge for school board elections, walking door to door to campaign for local candidates, working with the United Way campaign, working with the Boy Scout financial support team, and serving local scouting as assistant troop leader in Bay City and leader in Pampa, Texas. Among his honors in Scouting, he acquired the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. Having been so active in the community he was Chamber of Commerce's Man of the Year in Bay City in 1990. He supported his alma mater, Ottawa University, in many ways, thus giving many other young people opportunities to succeed in higher education. He was a mentor to many and always led by example.
He is survived by his wife June Wood Allen; his sister Nathela Crooks; and his daughters Terry McBee and her daughters' families: Brian and Heather McBee Butscher, Lily and Hayes; Geoff and Katie McBee Abbott and Clayton Robert; and Denise Allen-Blake and her children: Justin Allen Blake, and Whitney Blake and Matt Roberts and son Nathaniel Roberts; nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in home going by his parents Nathan and Lela, his brother, David, and his son-in-law, Randall McBee.
