Robbie Estelle Lloyd Van Ness, 85, reunited with her husband Bill in Heaven on Aug. 5, 2010.
Robbie was born the sixth of seven children on Mar. 8, 1925 in Tennessee. Her family moved to Bay City when she was very young and she spent most of her early years in that area. She graduated from Boling High School in1943.
While Bill was fighting in WWII, Robbie was a "Rosie the Riveter" in Utah patching battle damaged airplanes. She and Bill were married May 25, 1946, just after his return from the war. Their marriage lasted 58 years until Bill's death in 2004.
Bill and Robbie spent most of their lives in Houston, where she was a housewife and mother and later grandmother "Nana" and great-grandmother.
In 1987, they retired to Lake Cherokee in the Longview area where they both peacefully lived surrounded by family and friends. Her hobbies included sewing, fishing, and playing bridge.
Robbie is proceeded in death by her husband Bill Van Ness; her sister Louise and brother-in-law Voss McCrosky (who helped raise her), her sisters Sarah and Aunnine, and her brothers Aubrey, Thestle, and Garner.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Ehl and her husband Don, her son Billy Joe Van Ness and his wife Linda; her granddaughter Monica Edwards, her grandson Matt Edwards and his wife Alysan, her grandson Jason Van Ness, her grandson Cary Shatto and his wife Angie, her step-grandson William and his wife Ronna; her niece, who was more like a sister, Donna Johnson and her husband Hubert; her great-grandchildren Shea, Jordan, Daylon, Braxton, Jaclyn, Madalyn, Jillian, Reese and Camden; her dear friends John Cone, Monica Goodwin and Lynda Suter, and several other nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Chris Gibson, Daylon Howell, Skipper Osborne, Terry Osborne, Doug Lloyd and Wayne Head.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 8 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will also be held at Taylor Bros. at 11 a.m. on Aug. 9. Internment will follow at Hawley Cemetery.
