IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Edward
Johnson
October 18, 1952 – March 10, 2021
Richard Johnson, 68, of Palacios, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at his home. He was born October 18, 1952 in Houston, Texas to the late Richard Alan Johnson and Patricia Ann Griffin.
Richard spent his childhood traveling the world as the son of a military man. He settled back to his beloved home state of Texas where he met the love of his life Tamara. Richard would spend the rest of his life in the state of Texas, rarely leaving his beloved homeland and advocating for Texas to rise amongst the nations once again! Richard loved the outdoors and spending time in the woods with his friends and family. At thanksgiving you could find Richard and his dear friend Royce Sanford showering in the cold waters of Boykin Springs often times in 40-50 degree weather. You may have also found him hiking in the desolate lands of Big Bend state park or seen him float the Guadalupe River in his signature cut-off jeans. Richard enjoyed fishing, especially the waters of Carancahua Bay, and would often return from his trips with his limit in trout and redfish. Richard's grandfather, Captain Bud as he was known, taught him to fish and would often tell him "you have to be smarter than the fish", this was knowledge Richard would pass down to his sons and a phrase uttered in the family to this day. Another of Richard's loves was working on and riding the Comanche & Indian Gap Railroad, an 1/8 th scale railroad covering many acres on a ranch in Priddy, TX. Richard could be found at the ranch with his dear friend Frank Pickard. Frank and Richard could be found fixing track and riding the rails, often spending nights huddled around small fires along the railroad. These were referred to as hobo camps around the ranch and many good stories have been told and created at these camps. Above all in life Richard enjoyed a good party and was widely loved by all. He had friends from every walk of life and exhibited kindness and acceptance to anyone who would do the same for him. To know Richard, was to love him, and he was a blessing to his friends and family that will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Richard Alan Johnson and Patricia Ann Griffin, as well as his grandparents Albert and Frida Griffin, his granddaughter Skye and Great Grandson Uriah. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Tamara Johnson; his Sons and their wives Dustin and Mary and Shawn and DeAnn, his grandchildren Ashley, Destiny, Samantha, Amber, Dax, Trey, Raif, Colt, Jett, and Great Grandchild Emery.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date for family and friends.
