Regina Irene Evans, 85, of Bay City passed away August 21, 2010 in Bay City. She was born June 27, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to John Seymore and Bertha Durner Clark.
Regina met and married Sam O. Evans Jr. in Philadelphia in 1942. After the war, they traveled throughout the country following the construction industry. They came to Texas and finally settled in Bay City in 1950. Regina was a lifelong, faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and loved working with both the youth through Awanas and the elderly in the H.U.G.G.S. ministry. She lovingly served hot meals to the children of Bay City ISD for over 35 years at Tenie Holmes and Bay City High School. Being born and raised in the inner city, she experienced many different cultures and nationalities that sparked a lifelong love of travel. China, Norway, England, Jerusalem, Egypt, and Japan, were some of her favorites. She prided herself in obtaining her GED at age 60. Shortly after receiving her GED, she attended college and worked towards receiving her Associate's Degree. Regina loved learning new things and would read the daily newspaper from front to back. She never left a question unanswered. She adored her grandchildren and relished her time spent with them.
Regina is survived by daughters, Regina Rouse of Baytown, and Arlene and Donn Collins and son, Sam Evans III and Yvonne; brother, Harry and Edie Clark of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Regina Cobb of St. Louis, Missouri, Donna Burlin, Michael Rouse and Dana of Baytown, Kimberly McMillan of Waco, Katy and Walt Wendler of Bryan, Jennifer and Tracy Childers and Julianne Collins of Bay City; 15 great-grandchildren, and 5 great –great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her loving husband of 53 years, son James Howard Evans, brothers: John, Albert, and Jake Clark, sisters, Mary Hall and Joan Roese., and son-in-law Hillman Rouse Jr.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm to 8pm Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Michael Rouse, Tracy Childers, Kim McMillan, Jennifer Childers, Julianne Collins, Donna Burlin, Regina Cobb, & Katy Wendler.
The family requests that donations be made in Regina's memory to the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Fund.
