Ray Albert Hanna, 75, of Sweeny, TX went home to be with his Lord & Savior March 14, 2006 at his residence. He was born March 8, 1931 in Sweeny, TX to the late William Voyd and Bertha Louise Hanna Norman. He was a life long resident of Sweeny, and a member of Shady Acres Baptist Church. Ray served in the US Air Force as a flight engineer on B 29 and B 50 bombers during the Korean Conflict from 1949 to 1954. He was a retired instrument technician with Dow Chemical for 25 years and Union Carbide Co for 11 ½ years.
Survivors include his wife Daisy Hanna of Sweeny; daughter: Linda Miner of Sweeny; sons and daughters-in-law: Alan & Pam Hanna of Churchill, TX, Steve & Carla Hanna of Sargent, TX, and Monty & Terri Hanna of Sweeny, TX; sisters: Naomi Swinney & husband Laverne of Janesville, CA, Phyllis Hendershot & husband Loyd of Sweeny, TX, Zana Ellis & husband Wayne of Blessing, TX, Margie Mielsch & husband Fred of Cedar Lane, TX, and Faye Pounders & husband James of Brazoria, TX; brothers: George W. "Buster" Hanna & wife Margaret of Sweeny, TX, Elby Hanna & wife Van of Sargent, TX, and Paul Hanna & wife Shelia of Bay City; sisters-in-law: Joyce Hanna of Brazoria, Elsie Orsborn & husband Ab of Neoga, IL, Lois Ogle & husband Mac of Shumway, IL. Brothers-in-law: Jim Thompson & wife Jo and Mike Thompson & wife Juanita all of Windson, IL; 10 grandchildren: Sandy Shifflett & husband Doyle, Chad, & Kevin Hanna, and Dana Miner all of Sweeny, Jerry Parrish of Houston, Joe, Adam, Emily, and Beth Hanna all of Sargent, and Phillip Hanna of Churchill; 2 great grandchildren: Marcus Fath and Hayden Shifflett both of Sweeny. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters: Quinda Hanna and Agnes Merritt, and by his brother: Wesley B. Hanna.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny, TX with the Rev. David Pate officiating. Interment will follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad Finley, Johnny and James Hanna, Danny Ogle, Joe & Doug Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the Shady Acres Baptist Church Mens Sunday School Class. The Family will receive friends Friday evening at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
